Seeing the Future
Seven Young Artists Re-create the Tarot
by Chris Koseluk & Photos by Deverill Weekes
November of 2018 sparked the next chapter, or should I say cover, of Victoria's career as a makeup artist. She was asked to take over the position of the High Priestess makeup for the talented actress, Juliet Landau. She quickly found she could not complete this task without a trusted partner to assist her. Her close friend, Alie Fleck, fit the role perfectly and the two tackled the beauty makeup flawlessly.
In the early stages of planning the makeup, Victoria realized that "Juliet has these amazing blue eyes," and that they "wanted to make sure those are going to be seen". They also discussed her hair and whether they wanted to use her
natural hair, or use a wig. Once they decided to go the wig route, Victoria called a friend who is a cosmetologist, Kristen Quinn. Kristen came over the night before the photo shoot to cut, color and style the High Priestess's wig.
The day of the photo shoot was beautiful. A room full of talented, hard working and dedicated artists working on their own creations, while cheering and helping each other out. The group finished the day with a group photo (as seen below) with the amazing photographer, Deverill Weekes, in the center with his beautiful, supporting wife right by his side.
At MUD, Make-Up Designory, in Burbank, CA the schools photographer sets up monthly interviews with artists in the makeup industry. In January 2019, the group of artists who graduated from MUD and worked on the Tarot Card Photo shoot were asked to participate in the MUD Talk with Michael Key, Editor of Make-Up Artist Magazine. Before the interview begun, the group took photos with one another (as seen below and to the left).
The link for the interview is also listed below.
The group was also then asked to re-create their pieces at IMATS LA. At the show many artists revamped their makeups and changed a few things to really make it their own and to have a more memorable experience. The photos from this event are on the next page titled, IMATS LA 2019.
